- 1. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n

- The Silicon Graphics Image Format Library (IFL) is a library
- for opening, reading, writing and creating image files in a
- format independent manner. IFL consists of a library
- developed in C++. An interface library for C programmers is
- also provided. IFL includes support for the TIFF, PNG, GIF,
- JFIF(JPEG), SGI, PPM, Photo CD, Alias, SOFTIMAGE, YUV, FIT
- and raw file formats. It is designed to be very easy to use
- with a straight-forward mechanism for user-extension to
- other file formats.

- IFL software consists of a primary library for C++, a
- supporting library for C programmers, and the header files
- for compiling new software using these libraries.
- Documentation consists of online man pages for all object
- classes and supporting routines.

- software is provided to you solely under the terms

- If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
- the Tools submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
- _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser for the online release notes.

- Refer to the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for information on
- options to this command.

- If you do not have a graphics system, you can use the
- _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s command. Refer to the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for
